Off the Beaten Flight Path

Welcome to a NEW section of the Daffy Blokes guild website. Recently I was thinking to myself what I love about World of Warcraft after all these years of playing. There are so many aspects that have been altered over the life of the game as well as between our players, our guilds and servers. However, there are some things that have remained tried and true since day one ... and if anything, it is those characteristics that keep the more than 10 million players STILL playing. For every one of us, that driving love originates from something different but since this page is being created by ME, I went looking for that thing(s) that drive ME to continue to play. My hope is that there are others that share those thing(s) and will contribute to these posts.

And what is it? Exploration ... finding places in the world of Azeroth (and Outworld) that are off the regular path of play ... going places where no gnome has been before (besides an orc outhouse). There are plenty of places in the wilderness that are out there to explore and over the years, some of them have even vanished to be replaced by another somewhere else. Azeroth is a living world full of change and it should not be stopped. With my recent "Kilrogg rebirth" I have been traveling more often (Safer on a PvE server) and rediscovered that passion I had for getting lost :D Now I want to share ... I want everyone that has a similar love to share as well ... so let us revel in our worlds and our adventures!!!

The Hidden Sleeping Dragon

In the farthest southern regions of Kalimdor, facing the ocean on the other side of the mountains that ring the ancient fallen kingdom of Ahn'Qiraj there lies a cave. Inside this cave slumbers an ancient red dragon named Andrestasz.

Look for the cave in the very southern area .. the entrance is partially hidden by a grove of trees.

Hidden Dragon Cave

Once inside, you will recognize the cave structure as one of WoW's standard layouts. In this particular circumstance, it spirals down several times to a single cavern deep below. Levitate and feather fall help a lot here :D

Last Meal

Once you are down below ... via walking, running, flying or just plain stooopidness :) You will bear witness to the ancient sleeping dragon known as Andrestrasz ...

Sssshhhh ... he's sleeping

You may notice his very low level ...

Level 5?!!?

He's still just a lil'puppy :D

Sleeping Dragon so Cute

The current going theory based on a Blue Poster is that the dragon is in honor of someone's five year old son named Andre. It has been in place for quite a long time, if not Vanilla.

Deep Water Exploration

Deep Water
Somewhere off the coast of the Eastern Continent there is a long stretch that you can swim despite it being in a "exhaust" zone. Just East of the Vash'jir starting area, you can head over the vast cliff wall and waaaaaaaaaaay down into the crushing depths of the ocean.

From there you can actually swim across to the main continent ... assuming you have water breathing skills :)

At the mid point you can see both the island area of Vash'jir ...

As well as the Eastern Continent's shelf ...

Critter Warfare in Mulgore

Hidden Critter MapSo with critter combat coming up in MoP I decided to go revisit a long time battle in the northern hills of Mulgore.

Up on a Plataea to the West of Thunderbluff, straddling the intersections of Stoneridge, Desolace and Mulgore is a beautiful field where the air seems calm and peaceful.

Axe Rabbit
However, among this illusion of tranquility brews a murderous rampage of bunnies, gophers and mice.

In the northern end, axe wielding rabbits are rampaging through the fields terrorizing the smaller rodents, cutting them down in the cuteness.

Killing Axe Rabbit

Armed Gophers
Towards the south, both gopher and mouse, have armed themselves and are extracting revenge.

Shotgun Mouse

This area is truly a war of cuteness without mercy.

Terrakor Forest

There are plenty of owls in this region ... I assume its all the wonderful trees draw them ... or maybe its that weird Skexis like race that wanders around dropping their feathers for rewards. This particular location appears to be a temple devoted to the silent flyer and is sandwiched between several tall mountains by the elevated lake.

This new island not only contains the wondrous likes of the Darkmoon Faire but it also holds some secrets. Skirting the edge of the island will provide you with some wonderful scenery as well as a couple of items that make you wonder ...
